While there are several people who believe in the goodness of eating raw fruit and vegetables, there are times when we need to cook them so we can get the best out of them. However, not every fruit or vegetable or lean meat can be cooked in oil. There are several other ways of cooking healthy food aside from frying them in vegetable or corn oil. We can also steam them, stew them or cook them inside a microwave oven.
Steaming healthy food will require you to use a special pot that has a sieve on top. It must also have a lid that can be tightly closed. Stewing will involve cooking healthy food on a stove with the use of a closed pot. Or you can also use an oven through stewing healthy food inside a pot covered with foil. And perhaps the easiest way to cook healthy food is through the use of a microwave oven.
There are several other methods for cooking for good health and there are also several recipes that will allow you to cook and eat healthy food. What is important is you are able to nourish yourself with much needed nutrients while keeping your palate satisfied.

Im a meat and potato girl but need some healthy recipes...HELP!?
Before I had my children, I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain a lb, usually stayed around 100 lbs. Since my last child was born 3 years ago I have been having trouble watching my weight. I am the meat and potato type and really not of fan of the health food. Anyone out there have any suggestions? Any good cook books or recipes? I don't really like the funky flavors.
POTATO SUPREMES

4 COLORADO russet variety potatoes
Salt and pepper
8 teaspoons whole seed or grainy mustard
6 ounces Brie cheese
2 tablespoons finely chopped chives or
green onion tops
Heat oven to 4000. Prick potatoes in 5-6 places with the tines of a fork. Bake potatoes 50-60 minutes, until tender and skins are crisp. Cut potatoes cross- wise into 4 thick slices. With a melon baller or small spoon, scoop out a little potato from the center. Season with salt and pepper; spread each hollowed-out center with 1/2 teaspoon mustard. Cut up Brie into 16 chunks; place one piece in each center. Sprinkle with chives. Place on baking sheet. Bake 15-20 minutes until cheese has melted and browned in spots. Serve warm. Makes 16 appetizers.

Stew
=============================
1/4 cup olive oil
1 1/4 pounds stew beef, cut into 1-inch pieces
6 large garlic cloves, minced
6 cups beef stock or canned beef broth
I cup of Guinness beer
1 cup of fine red wine
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon dried thyme
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 bay leaves
2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter
3 pounds russet potatoes, peeled, cut into 1/2-inch pieces (about 7 cups)
1 large onion, chopped
2 cups 1/2-inch pieces peeled carrots
Salt and Pepper
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 Heat olive oil in heavy large pot over medium-high heat. Add beef and sauté until brown on all sides, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and sauté 1 minute. Add beef stock, Guinness, red wine, tomato paste, sugar, thyme, Worcestershire sauce and bay leaves. Stir to combine. Bring mixture to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, then cover and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
2 While the meet and stock is simmering, melt butter in another large pot over medium heat. Add potatoes, onion and carrots. Sauté vegetables until golden, about 20 minutes.
3 Add vegetables to beef stew. Simmer uncovered until vegetables and beef are very tender, about 40 minutes. Discard bay leaves. Tilt pan and spoon off fat. Transfer stew to serving bowl. Sprinkle with parsley and serve. (Can be prepared up to 2 days ahead. Salt and pepper to taste. Cool slightly. Refrigerate uncovered until cold, then cover and refrigerate. Bring to simmer before serving.)
Serves 4 to 6.
